Well done and a big thank you to everyone who took part in the May 2008 CHIN-UP Beach Run.Congratulations to Adam Fletcher and Lyndsey Senior for winning the Mens’ and Womens’ categories respectively. The run went well. It was windy….again, but it stayed fair….and we kept hold of the tent this time!! There were eighteen runners, including the Senior family from Surrey, who left us a magnificent donation of £100.00. The McConnell and the Barnes families, who have stayed at Jonathan’s Halfway House, came. Lee and Mick ran, and the rest of the families, including Grandma and Auntie, went to the house and made the teas. All the runners said the they had enjoyed themselves (mad fools) and would run again either at Christmas, or next year. The ladies from Border Home Bake, Haltwhistle also ran. It was suggested that they run to the rock crossing and then turn back, but no, they did the whole course. We think they were brave for attempting it as they hadn’t really prepared! So many thanks to them for their support. Continue reading
About CHIN-UP
Registered in 1994 we are a local charity established to relieve children and young people (0-18 years) suffering from a progressive or terminal illness by the provision of facilities for family breaks or respite care in the North-East & Cumbria.
Thanks to the generosity of thousands of people, we have been able to purchase and operate a holiday home in the Seahouses area of Northumberland. This half-way house, which opened in March 2006, now provides much needed, free holiday breaks to families with a child/young person suffering from a progressive or terminal illness. Photographs of the house can be seen on the Holiday Home page.
Owing to its success we are now endeavouring to raise the funds to open a second holiday home somewhere on the West Coast of Cumbria in order to make our service accessible to more families. We need all the help we can get to achieve this aim.
